I made a special trip out at dawn to observe the annual Plantoid migration. Nothing else stirring at that early hour but mosquitoes and the insomniac squirrel who lives in a cottonwood tree near the end of the garden. The Plantoids, in an effort to put roots down in the cool shade of the deep forest packed their bags, hiked up their skirts and made the mad dash across the garden path and straight into the woods. The patter of hundreds of tiny Plantoid feet could only be heard while holding ones breath with an ear near the ground as the garden suddenly burst into an undulating sea of midnight green when they raced the morning sun, skittering into the inky darkness that still clung like a damp blanket to the lower forest.
In their mad rush across the glen, they managed to stir up a gaggle of good natured Fluttermoths who were just washing the sleep from their faces in new Spring dew. The Jacabobs spotted the commotion at the edge of the garden and invited a Fluttermoth in for tea and morning crumpets.
Wee winged Fluttermoth stands 3 inches tall made of rusty copperish brown wool with ecru-white and cantaloupe pink stripes around his portly middle. Fluttermoth is made by the needle felting method with involves poking and poking a squidgeon of wool with a special barbed needle while wearing a full gauntlet to protect ones fingers. Then you poke some more. And a bit more after that.
He enjoys squirrels and plays well with other "Bobs", Bunnies and Nurblettes but loathes the barn kitties with a passion. (I really mean it about the kitties)
